(Keep on Growing in Faith, Love, and Hope)

“Nên bây giờ còn có ba điều nầy: đức tin, sự trông cậy, tình yêu thương; nhưng điều trọng hơn trong ba điều đó là tình yêu thương.”
(And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.)
I. A Goal to Increase
Today is a special Sunday, because it is the first Sunday of 2015 (Sáng nay là Chúa Nhật thật đặc biệt, vì là ngày Chúa Nhật đầu tiên của một năm mới.) 2014 passed away, New Year is here (Năm cũ 2014 đã trôi qua đi vào lịch sử, và năm mới 2015 đã đến với mỗi người chúng ta.) So, do you have any plan or resolutions for the New Year yet? (Bạn đã có những hoặch định gì cho năm mới này chưa?) The most common resolutions that many Americans always make are a) to lose a little weight and b) for some to quit smoking, so they can live healthier and longer. (Hai kế hoạch đầu năm mà nhiều người Mỹ thường hay có đầu năm đó là mong được xuống cân, hay cho một số người là muốn bỏ hút thuốc lá, vì ai cũng muốn sống lâu và khỏe mạnh). Many companies already make new plans to improve their profit margins for this New Year. (Các công ti thì cũng đã có những kế hoạch đặt sẵn để tăng thêm lợi tức trong năm mới này).
What about the church of God here, does it have any plan for New Year? Do we plan for expansion, for growth, for more ministries? (Còn HT của Chúa ở đây thì sao? Chúng ta có chương trình phát triển gì chưa cho những mục vụ mới?) The world surrounding us always finds ways to improve life conditions, with better technologies, synergies, opportunities, new resources… what’s about the church of God? (Thế giới xung quanh chúng ta thì lúc nào cũng tiến bộ trong những kỹ thuật mới, những cơ hội, khám phá những nguồn lợi mới… nhưng còn HT của Chúa thì sao?) Will we be drifted behind and continue to shrink raising the next generations that know God less, because the forces of “evil men in the world will grow worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived” (2 Tim. 3:13)? (HT Chúa có sẽ bị thụt lùi không, và một thế hệ mới sẽ nổi lên không còn yêu mến Chúa như xưa nữa, bởi vì những áp lực mờ tối của thế gian càng ngày càng có những người hung ác, kẻ giả mạo chìm đắm luôn trong những điều dữ, làm lầm lạc kẻ khác?)
The growth of our church in New Year would depend on the spiritual growth of the individual Christians. (Sự tăng trưởng của HT Chúa trong năm mới này sẽ tùy thuộc vào sự tăng trưởng thuộc linh trong đời sống của mỗi con cái Chúa). The growth of VHBC in 2015 depends on the spiritual growth of you and me. So the question for each of us is that, do I have a plan for any spiritual growth in 2015? (Cho nên câu hỏi đáng suy gẫm cho mỗi người chúng ta đó là “Tôi đã có một chương trình/kế hoạch gì để tăng trưởng đời sống thuộc linh của mình chưa?)
The sermon this morning would hopefully help us in setting goals for spiritual growths and praying for God the Holy Spirit to help us achieving them this New Year. (Bài giảng sáng nay mong sẽ hướng dẫn quí vị đặt những mục tiêu cho sự tăng trưởng của đời sống thuộc linh và cầu nguyện xin Chúa Thánh Linh giúp đỡ mình)
II. Three Basic Pillars
According to the apostle Paul, the three basic pillars for a Christian life are faith, love and hope (theo lời sứ đồ Phaolô, đời sống của những người tin theo Chúa Giê-xu được xây cất bởi ba cột trụ chính: đức tin, tình yêu thương và sự trông cậy) – (But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.) “Nên bây giờ còn có ba điều nầy: đức tin, sự trông cậy, tình yêu thương; nhưng điều trọng hơn trong ba điều đó là tình yêu thương.” If each of us keeps on growing in these 3 areas in 2015, God’s church here will be increased and more believers will be added to God’s kingdom that would bring glory to Him. (Và nếu mỗi người chúng ta cứ tiếp tục tăng trưởng trong 3 khía cạnh này thì HT của Chúa ở đây sẽ tiếp tục được tăng trưởng và Chúa sẽ cộng thêm người vào HT)
1) First, let’s define what is faith? (Thứ nhất, chúng ta cùng nhau tìm hiểu đức tin là gì?)
a) In Hebrews 11:1 faith defines as the – (… confidence (substance of things) in what we hope for, and assurance (evidence) about what we do not see.) “đức tin là sự biết chắc vững vàng của những điều mình đang trông mong là bằng cớ của những điều mình chẳng xem thấy.” We should first ask the question – in Whom we have the confidence and assurance? (Câu hỏi đầu tiên để hiểu định nghĩa của đức tin đó là bởi AI mà chúng ta có sự biết chắc vững vàng và bằng cớ của những điều mình trông mong?) The Object of our faith is God Himself, in Him we have the confidence and assurance. (Đấng đó chính là ĐCT toàn năng mà chúng ta có sự biết chắc và bằng cớ của những điều mình trông mong.) Everyone has faith, even the Buddhist/atheists who have faith in themselves, but their faith does not have the same Object as Christians. (Ai cũng có niềm tin, kể cả những người theo đạo phật hay vô thần có đối tượng đức tin chính là mình; nhưng đối tượng đức tin của họ không giống như của người cơ đốc.) Our object that we put our faith in and worship is God, the Creator of all things, as Bible declares in Genesis 1:1 – (In the beginning God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth.) (Đối tượng đức tin của những người cơ đốc chính là Đấng Tạo Hóa, mà Kinh Thánh trong STK 1:1 đã chép lúc “Ban đầu Đức Chúa Trời dựng nên trời đất.”
The subject of our faith in God is His words and His promises that we surely hope and wait for, but have not seen. (ĐCT là Đấng đã ban cho chúng ta những lời hứa chắc chắn của những điều mà chúng ta đang trông mong, nhưng chưa xem thấy được) Some of God’s promises are already fulfilled; For example, the gift of the Savior Who was born in first Christmas, to die, be raised after 3 days, and later ascended to heaven; Others will be fulfilled at the end times when Jesus, His Son will come back to be the Judge and to give the eternal life to those who believed in Him. (Một số những lời hứa của Ngài đã ứng nghiệm; chẳng hạn như lời hứa của Đấng Cứu Thế đã đến sanh ra trong Giáng Sinh đầu tiên, sự chết của Ngài chuộc tội cho chúng ta, sự sống lại của Chúa vinh hiển về trời. Nhưng cũng có những lời hứa chưa xảy ra mà chúng ta đang trông mong, đó là ngày Chúa Giê-xu sẽ trở lại trên mây để ban sự sống đời đời cho mọi kẻ tin)
So faith is to believe that God existed, receiving His gift of the Savior Jesus, and waiting for the promise of God’s kingdom. (Đức tin nghĩa là tin có sự hiện hữu của ĐCT, là nhận món qùa cứu chuộc Ngài đã ban cho trong Cứu Chúa Giê-xu, và sống trông mong nước thiên đàng Cứu Chúa Giê-xu hứa ban cho mọi kẻ tin khi Ngài trở lại)
b) How does a person come to have faith? (Làm thế nào một người có đức tin?) Faith comes from hearing the word of God, which comes from the mouth of God. (Đức tin đến bởi sự nghe lời Chúa rao giảng, là lời ban cho từ miệng ĐCT) Trong Romans 10:17 – (faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.) “đức tin đến bởi sự người ta nghe, mà người ta nghe, là khi lời của Đấng Christ được rao giảng.” Faith comes from the Above, through the person of Christ that God sent, according to all the scriptures which are the words of God. (Đức tin ban cho từ trên xuống, qua Con một của ĐCT đã gíang thế, y theo như những lời tiên tri là lời của ĐCT). The scriptures in the Bible reveal the Savior Jesus, who revealed God the Father, so that we can know and have faith in God. (Lời Kinh Thánh bày tỏ Đấng Cứu Thế, Đấng Cứu Thế giáng trần bày tỏ ĐCT, để chúng ta biết và đặt niềm tin nơi Ngài). The world today is trying so hard to “edge” out Jesus and the scriptures, but without Jesus Who is the “Bridge” between God and mankind, we cannot truly have faith. (Thế giới ngày nay luôn muốn “đẩn” Chúa Giê-xu và Kinh Thánh ra khỏi cuộc sống; nhưng nếu không có Chúa Giê-xu là “chiếc cầu” nối giữa con người và Trời, thì chúng ta sẽ thật sự không thể có đức tin chân thật.)
So in order to continue growing in faith, we need to increase in the knowledge of God’s words and His will for our life. (Để tăng trưởng đức tin trong năm mới, chúng ta phải có mục tiêu tăng trưởng sự hiểu biết của lời Chúa và ý muốn của Ngài cho chính mình) This process comes from the daily studying of God’s word and prayer. (Muốn như vậy thì chúng ta mỗi người phải có thêm thì giờ mỗi ngày trong sự tĩnh tâm học lời Chúa và cầu nguyện) If you want to set a goal for the increases of your faith in 2015, you must discipline yourself with a daily devotion of reading the scriptures and praying; there is no other shortcut. (Mỗi người phải tập có một đời sống kỷ luật tâm linh trong năm 2015 trong sự học Kinh Thánh và cầu nguyện tương giao với Chúa mỗi ngày; ngoài ra không có cách nào nữa) If you don’t commit to this, your faith will wither and you will be drifted away from the truths, and the church of God here cannot be increased. (Nếu chúng ta mỗi người không quyết tâm làm điều này thì đức tin của chúng ta sẽ bị héo, chúng ta sẽ bị trôi khỏi lẽ thật, và HT Chúa sẽ tự động bị yếu kém hơn trong năm 2015)
2) The second pillar is love. So what is true love? (Điều thứ hai đó là tình yêu thương. Sự yêu thương thật lòng nghĩa là sao?)
a) A person cannot first experience true love without first experiencing God’s love. (Một người trước hết không thể kinh nghiệm tình yêu thương thật, nếu trước hết chưa kinh nghiệm sự yêu thương từ nơi Chúa ban cho) In 1 John 4:19 – The apostle John said - (We love because He (Jesus) first loved us.) “Chúng ta yêu, vì Chúa đã yêu chúng ta trước.” We do not seek to love God, but He loves us first; while we were yet sinners, Christ, His Son died for us. (Bản chất tự nhiên của chúng ta không biết tìm yêu Chúa, nhưng Chúa đã yêu chúng ta trước; vì khi chúng ta còn là kẻ có tội thì Đấng Christ đã vì chúng ta chịu chết) The cross where Jesus bled and took His last breath is the greatest symbol of God’s love. (Thập tự gía nơi Chúa Giê-xu đã đổ huyết và trút hơi thở cuối cùng là dấu rõ rệt nhất của tình yêu tuyệt vời Ngài dành cho mỗi chúng ta) No one will truly love, unless first accepting that Jesus Christ died on the cross for him. (Không ai sẽ thật sự kinh nghiệm tình yêu thương cho đến khi nhận biết chính Chúa Giê-xu đã chết trên cây thập tự cho mình)
b) God’s love is not a selfish love, not focusing on self, but all for the other person’s needs. (Tình yêu thương của Chúa không có ích kỷ, nhưng luôn nghĩ đến nhu cầu của người bên kia) In 1 Corinhthians 13:4-7 Paul helped us to see the practicle side of God’s unselfish love (khía cạnh thực tế của tình yêu thương ĐCT – (Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.) “Tình yêu thương hay nhịn nhục; tình yêu thương hay nhơn từ; tình yêu thương chẳng ghen tị, chẳng khoe mình, chẳng lên mình kiêu ngạo, 5 chẳng làm điều trái phép, chẳng kiếm tư lợi, chẳng nóng giận, chẳng nghi ngờ sự dữ, 6 chẳng vui về điều không công bình, nhưng vui trong lẽ thật. 7 Tình yêu thương hay dung thứ mọi sự, tin mọi sự, trông cậy mọi sự, nín chịu mọi sự.”
c) The real proof of our love for God is the life of obedience to His word. (Bằng cớ thực tế của tình yêu thương của chúng ta dành cho Chúa chính là sự vâng lời của chúng ta, làm theo những mạng lệnh của Ngài như thế nào) John 14:15 – How did Jesus define a person who truly loves Him? (If you love me, keep my commands.) “Nếu các ngươi yêu mến Ta, thì giữ gìn các điều răn Ta.”
i) To check if your love for Jesus will be increased in 2015 then count, not how many sermons you will listen to this year, but how many commadments you commit to obey after listening to the sermons. (Để đo lường tình yêu thương của mình dành cho Chúa coi xem tăng trưởng thể nào trong 2015, chúng ta không cần đếm bao nhiêu lần chúng ta đi nghe giảng trong ngày Chúa Nhật, nhưng là bao nhiêu điều chúng ta đã vâng lời làm theo sau khi nghe giảng, bắt đầu từ thứ Hai) It’s true when someone says - An act of obedience worths more than 1,000 sermons. (Một hành động vâng lời quí hơn nghe được 1,000 bài giảng) Check to see how much you depend on the Bible as the absolute guide to make all your decisions in 2015? (Tự xét coi xem trong năm mới này chúng ta có sẽ thường dùng lời Chúa làm tiêu chuẩn tuyệt đối trong mọi sự quyết định của mình không?)
ii) Check to see if your love for others will be increased then count, not how many nice words you will speak to them, but how will you care for them by the works of service. (Tự xét tình yêu thương của mình cho những người khác, không bởi chỉ những lời hay ý đẹp, nhưng có bằng những hành động thực tế hầu hạ, chăm sóc cho nhau không?) 1 John 3:18 the apostle John said – (Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.) “Hỡi các con cái bé mọn, chớ yêu mến bằng lời nói và lưỡi, nhưng bằng việc làm và lẽ thật.” Can your love be tasted, counted, and touched life? (Tự xét xem tình yêu thương của mình có nếm được không, có đếm được không, có thấy được không, và có thay đổi hay cảm hóa ai không?) We should love as Jesus has loved us – did He lay down His life for you and me? (Chúng ta phải yêu thương nhau như Chúa Giê-xu đã yêu chúng ta mà chịu treo mình trên cây thập tự) Many times, we fail our testimonies, because we only show love through “talk’ and not “walk,” “words” and not “works.” (Biết bao nhiêu lần chúng ta bị thất bại trong sự làm chứng tình yêu của Chúa, vì chúng ta chỉ nói thì nhiều, nhưng qua việc làm chăm sóc thì chẳng là bao nhiêu) Remember the world don’t care what we say, until they see what we have done to care. (Đừng quên rằng thế giới sẽ chẳng thèm nghe chúng ta nói gì, giảng gì, cho đến khi họ thấy được những gì chúng ta thật sự yêu thương họ bằng những việc làm thực tế)
Set a goal for 2015 right now of what ministries you will commit to get involved serving others and the church of Jesus Christ here at VHBC. (Mỗi người chúng ta phải có mục tiêu trong năm mới này là mình sẽ dự phần trong những mục vụ gì đây để chăm sóc hầu hạ ai đây trong HT của Chúa). Set a goal for 2015 that you will not just come to church every Sunday and go home like 2014 year, but to “lay down your life” for someone in need. (Mỗi người hãy đặt mục tiêu trong năm mới này chúng ta sẽ không chỉ đến nhà thờ ngồi nghe giảng rồi ra về, nhưng có sẽ bằng lòng chịu hy sinh đời sống và thì giờ để đáp ứng nhu cầu của ai không?) John 15:13 Jesus said – (Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.) “Chẳng có sự yêu thương nào lớn hơn là vì bạn hữu mà phó sự sống mình.”
3) The third pillar in spiritual growth is hope. What do we hope for? (Điều thứ ba của sự tăng trưởng thuộc linh cho năm mới là sự trông cậy. Chúng ta trông cậy gì?) The way I see is that love is the fruit of faith, and hope is the reward of faith. (Theo tôi thì tình yêu thương chính là trái của đức tin, còn sự trông cậy là phần thưởng của đức tin)
Everyone lives for some purposes and goals. Many people want to be famous; others want to gain a rich life, until a long and happy retirement. They work hard everyday to save, to gather, and to enjoy – there is nothing wrong with this; but don’t forget that all of these will end at our death. (Mọi người sống đều có mục đích. Ai cũng muốn được nổi tiếng, giàu có, và có một chương trình về hưu dư dật; Không có gì sai trong những điều này, nhưng đừng quên mọi sự sẽ kết thúc bởi sự chết) All life achievements will die one day and you will be left nothing for the next life; evenworse, the judgment is waiting for you if you reject the gift of Jesus. (Mọi điều chúng ta thâu lượm thành công sẽ chấm dứt một ngày, và chúng ta sẽ không còn gì để đem theo được nữa; còn tệ hơn nữa là sự phán xét chờ đợi mình, nếu cứ vẫn chưa chịu tin Chúa Giê-xu)
a) But those who put their faith in God are waiting for the eternal kingdom that do not perish nor faded, because they know this world is not their home. (Nhưng những ai đặt niềm tin nơi Chúa Giê-xu thì chờ đợi nước thiên đàng đời đời, chẳng hề phai tàn) It’s the kingdom of righteousness, no more tears, no more crooked ways, no more fear, no more death, because Jesus had overcame it and will reign. (Một thiên quốc đầy sự công bình thật, không còn nước mắt, đau đớn, không còn những điều bất công, không còn sự chết vì chính Chúa Giê-xu đã thắng hết rồi)
b) This kingdom is promised by Jesus when He returns again. (Nước thiên đàng này đã được chính Chúa Giê-xu hứa ban cho khi Ngài trở lại lần nữa) John 14:1-3 recorded Jesus’ promise when He returns – (Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.) “Lòng các ngươi chớ hề bối rối; hãy tin Đức Chúa Trời, cũng hãy tin ta nữa. 2 Trong nhà Cha ta có nhiều chỗ ở; bằng chẳng vậy, ta đã nói cho các ngươi rồi. Ta đi sắm sẵn cho các ngươi một chỗ. 3 Khi ta đã đi, và sắm sẵn cho các ngươi một chỗ rồi, ta sẽ trở lại đem các ngươi đi với ta, hầu cho ta ở đâu thì các ngươi cũng ở đó.”
c) How do you know your hope will be increased in 2015? (Làm sao biết sự trông cậy của chúng ta tăng trưởng trong năm mới này?) 1 John 3:3 the apostle John helped us to know – (And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.) “Ai có sự trông cậy đó trong lòng, thì tự mình làm nên thanh sạch, cũng như Ngài là thanh sạch.” If next week our youths are invited to meet one of the famous singers coming to Baton Rouge, as your heart desires, how would you prepare to personally encounter with that singer? (Nếu tuần tới này, các bạn thanh thiếu niên được mời đến dự và gặp mặt một trong những tài tử ca sĩ nổi tiếng nhất trên thế giới, thì các bạn sẽ sửa soạn như thế nào?) I bet you that you would prepare right now to be the coolest kid, wearing the modest clothes? (Tôi chắc rằng các bạn sẽ sửa soạn ngay bây giờ bằng cách chọn mặc những bộ quần áo nào “chịu chơi nhất” để được tiếp đón và gặp ca sĩ nổi tiếng này, phải không?) Some of you will go home today and try to treat all the pimples (mụn nhọt) on your face, clean them all, before meeting the famous singer face-to-face?
For those who have this hope of Jesus’ return will purify themselves by letting go more of the things of this world, and hold tight on the promise of Jesus in 2015. (Như vậy cho những ai có sự trông cậy, chờ đợi ngày Chúa Giê-xu trở lại sẽ tự nhiên thanh sạch đời sống mình, bằng cách buông thả những điều thuộc của thế gian hơn mà nắm chặt lời hứa của Chúa, chờ đợi Ngài) So what stuffs from the world that you and I need to let go in 2015? (Những điều xấu xa gì thuộc thế gian mà tôi và quí vị cần phải từ bỏ khi bước sang năm mới đây để sửa soạn đón Chúa?) Will 2015 is the year that our heart, our hands, and our words are cleaner than 2014?
III. Will VHBC Make a Difference in 2015?
We must make commitments to increase our faith in God, our love for God and His church, and our hope in 2015 to make a difference in this world for Jesus. (Chúng ta phải quyết tâm tăng trưởng đức tin, tình yêu thương, và sự trông cậy, để có thể chiếu ánh sáng Tin Lành đến cho thế giới trong năm mới này). The story of a group called “One-Way Missionaries.” (Nhóm của những người truyền giáo “một chiều”) They only buy “one way ticket,” this means they do not expect to return. (Họ luôn mua vé có một chiều đi thôi, nghĩa là không có ý định trở về). They pack their travel stuffs not in bags, but in a small coffin. This means a total commitment. (Hành ly của họ không có bỏ vào những cái vali, nhưng là một cái hòm gỗ nhỏ; nghĩa là sự tận hiến trọn vẹn trong sứ mạng truyền giáo). One witness of a “one way missionary” who came to a tribe, lived there to share the Gospel, and died there, never returned to his homeland. (Lời làm chứng từ một bộ lạc có những vị truyền giáo này đã đến, ở chung với họ, giảng Tin Lành và chết ở tại đó). On his tomb stone, the tribe people there engraved these words: “Before he came, life had no light; after he left, life has no darkness.” (Trên mộ bia của một vị truyền giáo được dân bộ lạc khắc những chữ sau đây: “Trước khi Người đến thì cuộc sống không có ánh sáng; sau khi Người đi (chết) thì cuộc sống chẳng còn bóng tối nữa)
Can VHBC shine the light and continue making differences, shining the light in the world for Jesus? Only if each of us continues growing in our faith, love and hope. (Chúng ta chỉ có thể rọi ánh sáng Tin Lành đến cho thế giới trong năm mới này, khi mỗi người chúng ta cứ tăng trưởng trong đức tin, tình yêu thương và sự trông cậy.). The one who is growing in faith will not ask himself “Do I have faith?” but asking “Am I increasing in the knowledge of God’s word each day?” (Ai thật sự tăng trưởng trong đức tin thì không còn hỏi mình có đức tin không, nhưng mình có thêm sự hiểu biết Chúa qua lời Kinh Thánh trong năm nay không?). Not asking himself “Do I have love for God and others?” but asking “Am I obedient to God’s commandments, and serving anyone and His church?” (Ai thật sự tăng trưởng trong sự yêu thương thì không còn hỏi yêu là sao, nhưng là mình có vâng phục làm theo những mạng lệnh điều răn của Chúa và chăm sóc hầu hạ ai không trong năm mới này). Not asking himself “Do I have hope” but asking “Is my life purified from the worldly things so I can be ready to meet the Lord Jesus?” (Ai thật sự tăng trưởng trong sự trông cậy chờ đợi Chúa trở lại thì sẽ không còn hỏi hy vọng là gì, nhưng là đời sống của mình cứ được thánh sạch thường không để sửa soạn gặp Chúa). May the Lord Jesus and His Spirit increase our faith, love and hope, to make a difference in the world for Him in 2015. (Cầu xin Chúa Giê-xu và thần linh của Ngài tăng trưởng đức tin, tình yêu thương, và sự trông cậy của mỗi chúng ta trong năm mới 2015 này.

Do you check your investments (đầu tư) often to see if they are making profits (lợi tức)? Some people check their bank statements daily to see how they are doing. What happen if you are losing money? Would you continue to put your money in those investments? You always wish your investments to be increased, at least catching up with inflations (vật gía leo thang), what’s about our spiritual life, do you expect any growth? How was your spiritual life in 2014? Do you have any investment plan to improve it in 2015? Do you want to increase your faith, love, and hope in 2015? How to do it?
1) To increase faith in God, begin a daily devotion to grow in the knowledge of God’s word and the personal relationship with Jesus. If you need help on how to start, just let us know.
2) To increase love for God and others, practice obedience. Every sermons you will listen to in 2015, make a commitment one thing you will obey after walking out of this building. May be one thing you may want to obey God is that you will make a commitment to begin attending Sunday School next week on time.
3) To increase hope of Jesus’ return, get rid of the worldly stuffs. (loại bỏ những điều thuộc thế gian) Sit down and write on a piece of paper some of the stuffs that belong to the world that you need some to be purified, or purging. May be some unholy friendship, unholy websites, unholy magazines, unholy video games that only promote sinning? May be unholy words that you are using often to gossip, to slander someone?
Increases in the knowledge of God’s word, more obedient, and continuous purging of the things of this world should be our resolutions for this New Year, so that 2015 will be successful for VHBC to make a difference for Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior! What is your and my commitment today?
Keep on Growing in Faith, Love, and Hope

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.
But the greatest of these is love.”
What are your resolutions for New year? Does VHBC expect any growth, and more ministries in 2015? The world surrounding us always finds ways to improve life conditions, with better technologies, synergies, opportunities, new resources… what’s about the church of God? The growth of our church in New Year would depend on the spiritual growth of the individual Christians, you and me. So, do you have a plan for any spiritual growth in 2015? According to the apostle Paul, the three basic pillars for a Christians’ maturity are faith, love and hope. If each of us keeps on growing in these three areas in 2015, God’s church here will be increased and more believers will be added to God’s kingdom that would bring glory to Him.
First, let’s define what is faith? Faith defines as the confidence (substance of things) in what we hope for, and assurance (evidence) about what we do not see. We should first ask the question – in Whom we have the confidence and assurance? The Object of faith is God, the Creator of all things, in Him we have the confidence and assurance. The subject of our faith in God is His words and His promises that we surely hope and wait for, but have not seen. How does a person come to have faith? Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ. So in order to continue growing in faith, we need to increase in the knowledge of God’s words and His will for our life. This process comes from the daily studying of God’s word and prayer. If you want to set a goal for the growth of your faith in 2015, you must discipline yourself with a daily devotion of reading the scriptures and praying; there is no other shortcut.
The second pillar is love. So what is true love? A person cannot first experience true love without first experiencing God’s unselfish love. The cross where Jesus bled and took His last breath is the greatest symbol of God’s love. No one will truly love, unless first accepting that Jesus Christ died on the cross for him. The real proof of our love for God is the life of obedience to His word. Your love for Jesus will be increased in 2015 depending not on how many sermons you will listen to this year, but how many commandments you commit to obey after listening to the sermons. Your love for others will be increased depending not on how many nice words you will speak to them, but how will you care for them, shown by the works of service. Can our love be tasted, counted, and touched life? Set a goal for 2015 right now of what ministries you will commit to get involved serving others and the church of Jesus Christ here at VHBC. Set a goal for 2015 that you will not just come to church every Sunday and go home like 2014 year, but to “lay down your life” for someone in need.
The third pillar in spiritual growth is hope. What do we hope for? Love is the fruit of faith, and hope is the reward of faith. Those who put their faith in God are waiting for the eternal kingdom that do not perish nor faded. It’s the kingdom of righteousness, no more tears, no more crooked ways, no more fear, no more death, because Jesus had overcame it and will reign. This kingdom is promised by Jesus when He returns again. How do you know your hope be increasing in 2015? Everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. For those who have this hope of Jesus’ return will purify themselves by letting go more of the things of this world, and hold tight on the promise of Jesus in 2015. So what stuffs from the world that you and I need to let go in 2015?
We must make commitments to increase our faith in God, our love for God and His church, and our hope in 2015 to make a difference in this world for Jesus. VHBC can continue making differences in the world for Jesus, only if we continue growing in our faith, love and hope. The one who is maturing in faith will not asking himself “Do I have faith?” but asking “Am I increasing in the knowledge of God’s word each day?” Not asking himself “Do I have love for God and others?” but asking “Am I obedient to God’s commandments, and serving anyone and His church?” Not asking himself “Do I have hope” but asking “Is my life purified from the worldly things so I can be ready to meet the Lord Jesus?” May the Lord Jesus and His Spirit increase our faith, love and hope to make a difference in the world for Him in 2015.
