Why Did This Happen to Me?

[ English | Vietnamese ]

Perhaps this question is uppermost in your mind. Maybe sickness has come into your life with its suffering and its expenses. Or it could be that death has taken a loved one. Perhaps family strife has brought misery and unhappiness into your home. You wonder if life is worth living, and ask yourself, "Why me?"

That's a good question. You might wonder if God is punishing you for something you have done. While this could be true, it is obviously not the primary reason. If God's main purpose were punishment, He would have taken your life.

"Why," you ask, "did this happen to me?"

The answer is that God wants to speak to you. He has tried to speak to you before, but as long as things were going well, you may not have listened to Him.

If you have never been born again, God wants you to turn to Him alone and ask Him to save you.

The Bible says, "It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment" (Hebrews 9:27). "All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). If you die in your sins, you will spend eternity in hell.

But God "is not willing that any should perish" (2 Peter 3:9). Therefore He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the Cross for our sins, that it might be possible for us to be forgiven, if we ask to be. "God commendeth His love toward us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him" (Romans 5:8-9).

Jesus Christ rose from the dead on the third day. This is the message that God wants us to know--and to believe as well: "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved" (Romans 10:9-10).

God is waiting to forgive you. But the choice now is yours. If you refuse Him, you face further disappointments in this life, and everlasting sorrow in the next.

If you will turn from your sins, ask God to forgive you, and receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, you can be forgiven. You are not promised an easy life on earth, but God will give you strength for every trial, and you are guaranteed everlasting joy in Heaven.
