Một Cuộc Đời Tự Do
(A Life of Freedom)
Giăng 8:31-32
“Bấy giờ Ngài (Chúa Giê-xu) phán cùng những người Giu-đa đã tin Ngài, rằng: Nếu các ngươi hằng ở trong đạo ta, thì thật là môn đồ ta; các ngươi sẽ biết lẽ thật, và lẽ thật sẽ buông tha các ngươi.”
(To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”)
I. Independence Day July 4th
> Living in America is a great blessing, not just because we have safety, clean water and air, but also the freedom we all enjoy. (Sống ở Mỹ này, chúng ta thật đang được hưởng rất là nhiều phước lành; không phải chỉ có một cuộc sống an ninh, không khí trong lành, nước uống thì tinh sạch, không sợ bị nhiễm trùng, nhưng còn được sống tự do nữa.)
> Americans highly value their freedom and always uphold and protect it with all costs and pride in this “land of the free,” (Người Mỹ rất tôn trọng, hãnh diện và luôn hết sức bảo vệ quyền tự do họ có.)
> The four basic freedoms expressed by president Franklin D. Roosevelt's to Congress on January 6, 1941 are: (4 điều tự do căn bản mà tổng thống Franklin Roosevelt đã trình bày trước Quốc Hội vào tháng Giêng năm 1941 là:)
· First, the freedom of speech and expression;
· Secondly, the freedom of every person to worship God in his own way;
· Thirdly, the freedom from want - which means securities to every nation to pursue a healthy economy for its inhabitants; and
· Fourthly, the freedom from fear – which means that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor.
(Sống ở bên đây người ta rất tôn trọng và luôn bảo vệ sự tự do ngôn nghữ, tự do phát biểu ý kiến, sự suy nghĩ của mình; tự do tôn giáo thờ phượng mà không ai cấm đoán hay kềm chế niềm tin mình được; tự do buôn bán kinh doanh qua nhiều cơ hội đầu tư.)
> An important holiday we celebrate here in US is the Independence Day from Great Britian since July 4th 1776. (Một trong những ngày lễ rất quan trọng ở bên đây là ngày lễ Độc Lập. Trong ngày lễ này, mọi người đốt pháo ăn mừng sự tự do độc lập cho dân tộc Mỹ đã có từ tháng Bảy Ngày 4th năm 1776, thoát khỏi chế độ của người Anh Quốc.)
II. True Freedom
> How would you define “freedom?” Does this mean that we can do or say anything as we please? (Theo bạn thì sự tự do nghĩa là sao? Có phải là c/ta muốn làm gì thì làm, nói gì thì nói, được không?)
> If freedom means everyone can just do whatever he pleases, then what will happen to this world? (Thử hỏi nếu tự do nghĩa là ai muốn làm gì thì làm, tùy theo ý riêng mình, thì cuộc sống này sẽ ra sao?)
# Few words to express that kind of freedom we would have are – “chaos, disorder, and death.” (Vài chữ để diễn tả tình trạng nếu tự do nghĩa là như vậy đó là – “hỗn loạn, bất trật tự và chết chóc” mà thôi.)
> What’s about the need for laws and rules? (Như vậy mục đích của những luật pháp/điều lệ đã đặt ra để làm gì?)
# Let’s just say no drivers would respect the laws of traffic light: “Green” to go/”red” to stop, or “no text while driving,” then how our life can be protected from accidents? (Chẳng hạn như nếu không có những định luật đi đường đàng hoàng hay tòa án không xử những người lái xe trái luật lệ, thì cuộc sống của chúng ta có an toàn không, hay sẽ sanh ra nhiều tai nạn xe cộ nguy hiểm?)
> If there is no law to punish criminals, murderers, rapists then how the innocent be protected? (Nếu không có những luật lệ đặt ra đàng hoàng để trừng phạt những kẻ ác, thì làm sao những người vô tội được bảo vệ hay những kẻ yếu đuối sẽ được bênh vực đây?)
> It seems that true freedom means you can do anything, say anything, but it must be within some boundaries… to bring peace and safety to everyone. (Hình như định nghĩa đúng của tự do là muốn làm gì cũng được, nhưng phải ở trong một số những giới hạn nào đó, hầu cho có thể đem đến cho mọi người một đời sống hạnh phúc/an lành nhất.)
> So how can we know when freedom has stepped over the line? How can we know how many laws and rules be enough to truly protect freedom? (Như vậy thế nào là sự tự do thật mà không bị quá trớn, luật pháp thế nào mới quân bình đủ để khỏi lấn át sự tự do đây?)
> The key question is where are the perfect boundaries for us to follow in order to experience true freedom? (Vấn đề ở đây trong sự tự do đó là phải tìm kiếm được những giới hạn/tiêu chuẩn toàn hảo ở đâu, để có thể hưởng được một đời sống tự do, hạnh phúc và an lành nhất.)
III. Know the Truth
> For Jesus, His answer is: true freedom begins with knowing the truth – He said: “… you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (Theo Chúa Giê-xu sự tự do bắt đầu bằng sự biết được lẽ thật – Ngài đã phán: “… các ngươi sẽ biết lẽ thật, và lẽ thật sẽ buông tha (nghĩa là trả tự do) các ngươi.)
1) What is truth then? That is the question which has been asked since the ancient time? (Lẽ thật là gì – đây là câu hỏi đã có từ lâu đời.)
> The first and basic truth is that there is a great Creator and we all are His creation. (Lẽ thật căn bản đầu tiên đó là có một Đấng Sáng Tạo Chí cao, và hết thảy c/ta đều là những vật thọ tạo của Ngài.)
# In Genesis 1:1 stated this most basic truth – “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Trong sách Sáng Thế Ký 1:1 ghi chép lẽ thật căn bản này – “Ban đầu Đức Chúa Trời dựng nên trời đất.”)
> In the Bible, Genesis Chapter 1 is the basic truth for human life. (Sách Kinh Thánh Sáng Thế Ký cả đoạn 1 là lẽ thật căn bản cho đời sống con người của c/ta từ đâu đến và với mục đích gì.)
> God created all things, including human; He also created the invisibles, angels and spirits that our human eyes cannot see. (Đức Chúa Trời dựng nên muôn loài vật, kể cả loài người: Ngài còn dựng nên những vật vô hình, các thiên sứ, thần linh mà mắt con người không thấy được nữa.)
> Since we are created, we don’t just live as we please; but we are free to live within the boundaries that our great Creator has set for us – that is the truth. (Một lẽ thật căn bản nữa c/ta cần hiểu đó là hết thảy chúng ta đều là những vật thọ tạo, cho nên cuộc sống của c/ta theo lẽ tự nhiên phải lệ thuộc vào một số những định luật tự nhiên của không gian và thời gian do Đấng Tảo Hóa đã định, chứ không phải mình muốn làm gì thì làm.)
# A picture of freedom liked an island where we can freely move about, but outside of it are “falling cliffs.” (Hình vẽ của sự tự do như một cái đảo lớn mà c/ta có thể tự do đi qua lại trên hòn đảo đó, nhưng bên ngoài cái đảo là ranh giới của những vực thẳm sâu.)
# We are free to live and move about on this earth, but we are always constrained under some natural laws that God created, such as the gravitional force; this means if we decide to freely jump out of a building we will fall and die. (C/ta được tự do sống, nhưng vẫn phải bị ràng buộc ở trong một số những định luật tự nhiên như sức hút của trái đất, nghĩa là nếu c/ta định nhảy ra khỏi một tòa nhà thì sẽ rớt xuống đất chết.)
# Có lần người ta kể nhà đánh boxing nổi tiếng tên Môhamét Ali đi máy bay; khi cất cánh thì cô chiêu đãi viên nhắc nhà lực sĩ Ali cài giây nịt an toàn vào, thì ông nói: “Tôi là superman, không cần phải buộc giây an toàn làm chi!”
> Cô chiêu đãi viên khôn ngoan trả lời: “Nếu ông là superman thì cũng không cần vào ngồi trong chiếc máy bay này làm gì.” Có nghĩa là nếu là superman, khi ông bị văng ra khỏi chiếc máy bay vì không có giây buộc an toàn thì có còn là “superman” nữa không, hay là sức hút trái đất sẽ định mạng sống của ông?
2) Where can we find truth? (Lẽ thật tìm được ở đâu?)
> The boundaries or standards of truths are God’s words as Jesus declared in John 17:17 when He prayed to the Father for His disciples – “Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth.” (Ranh giới và tiêu chuẩn của lẽ thật chính là lời Đức Chúa Trời, như Chúa Giê-xu đã phán trong Giăng 17 khi cầu nguyện cho các môn đồ của mình – “Xin Cha lấy lẽ thật khiến họ nên thánh; lời Cha tức là lẽ thật.”)
> Knowing the truth from God’s words is the beginning of freedom. (Nhận biết lẽ thật là lời của Đức Chúa Trời thì là sự bắt đầu của một đời sống tự do.)
3) What are God’s truths? (Những lẽ thật trong lời của Chúa là gì?)
# We need to read the whole Bible to know – that’s why we have the Bible for; but let me summarize few basic points: (C/ta cần đọc hết sách Kinh Thánh, nhưng có vài điểm căn bản sau đây cần hiểu:)
a) First, the Bible stated that our life is “framed/constrained” by death because of our sins. (Thứ nhất, cuộc sống con người bị giới hạn bởi sự chết là hậu quả của tội lỗi c/ta.)
# Romans 3:23 – “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Trong Rôma 3:23 chép rõ – “vì mọi người đều đã phạm tội, thiếu mất sự vinh hiển của Đức Chúa Trời,”)
# Romans 6:23a – “For the wages of sin is death...” (Trong Rôma 6:23a chép về hậu quả của tội lỗi – “Vì tiền công của tội lỗi là sự chết…”)
> There are two kinds of deaths: physical and spiritual deaths. (Có 2 sự chết căn bản - phần thuộc thể và phần thuộc linh.)
# Just go and visit a cemetery to see the real truth about the physical death to know that no one is spared by it. (Hãy đi thăm các nghĩa địa thì không ai có thể từ chối sự chết thuộc thể là rõ ràng lắm cho mọi người, không chừa ai hết.)
> This physical death can come suddenly to anyone at any time. (Sự chết thuộc thể này có thể xảy ra bất thình lình cho bất cứ ai, lúc mình không ngờ;)
# For that reason “We always know our birthday, but often not our death day.” (Vì vậy c/ta hết thảy đều biết rõ ngày sinh nhật của mình, nhưng thường không biết ngày tử của mình.)
> But there is a worse death because it is the eternal death – be separated from God and perished in the lake of fire forever. (Nhưng còn có sự chết kinh khủng hơn nữa đó là sự phân rẽ cả hồn lẫn thể xác khỏi Đức Chúa Trời đời đời, đau đớn ngày và đêm trong hồ lửa địa ngục cháy không hề tắt.)
b) Secondly, knowing the truth means to know that God is loving and in the beginning, He already sets out a plan to save us from this eternal death. (Lẽ thật thứ hai mà mỗi người cần biết đó là Đấng Tạo Hóa còn là Chúa yêu thương nữa và Ngài đã có một chương trình từ lúc ban đầu để cứu c/ta thoát khỏi sự chết đời đời này.)
i) His plan begun with a promise – “the seed of a woman” will destroy the curse of the serpent/satan who has the sting of death. (Trước hết bằng một lời hứa, đó là “hạt giống” của một người nữ chính là Đấng Cứu Thế sau này sẽ sanh ra và chà đạp đầu con rắn là satan và diệt mất cái nọc sự chết của nó trên mỗi tội nhân.)
ii) The plan followed with a chosen nation by God’s choice; So, that from this nation, a Savior would be born into this world. (Chương trình này tiếp theo sau là sự chọn lựa một dân tộc mà từ đó Đấng Cứu Thế sẽ sanh ra đời.)
> That nation is the Israelites. (Dân chọn đó chính là người Ysơraên.)
iii) God’s saving plan completed when at the right time, the Savior Jesus was born from a virgin, then later died on the cross to be a “payment” for our sins and redeem us back to God. (Khi đúng thời điểm thì Chúa Cứu Thế Giê-xu sanh ra đời từ một người nữ đồng trinh và chịu chết trên cây thập tự, chuộc mọi kẻ tin lại với chính Đức Chúa Trời.)
iv) God offers this salvation freely to anyone who believes in Jesus will be saved from the eternal death, but have the eternal life in God’s heavenly kingdom. (Đức Chúa Trời ban cho sự cứu chuộc này cho bất cứ ai bằng lòng tin nhận Chúa Giê-xu thì sẽ được cứu khỏi hình phạt của lửa địa ngục, nhưng có sự sống đời đời trong nước thiên đàng của Ngài một ngày.)
> That is the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth: Or we can say – Jesus is the truth that leads us to the eternal life. (Như vậy c/ta có thể nói rằng lẽ thật chính là Cứu Chúa Giê-xu, Đấng sẽ dẫn c/ta đến sự sống đời đời cho những ai dám tin danh Ngài.)
# John 14:6 – What did Jesus claim about Himself and promise to those who dare to believe in Him? “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (Giăng 14:6 Ngài có phán về chính mình – “Ta là đường đi, lẽ thật, và sự sống; chẳng bởi ta thì không ai được đến cùng Cha.”)
> If truth does not destine us to life, then it is not truth. (Nếu lẽ thật mà không hứa hẹn hay dẫn c/ta đến sự sống thì không phải là lẽ thật nữa.)
d) This is the truth that Jesus came and preached first to the Jewish people, but their leaders did not accept it. (Đây là lẽ thật mà Cứu Chúa Giê-xu đã đến và giảng đạo Tin Lành cho người Do Thái, nhưng những người lãnh đạo của họ thì không chịu tin.)
> Rather the Jewish leaders thought they could keep all the religious ceremonies and rituals of fasting, giving to charities, praying and tithes to go to heaven, not knowing that they were actually living under slavery. (Thay vì chấp nhận lẽ thật là Cứu Chúa Giê-xu, những người lãnh đạo tôn giáo thời đó lại khoe mình trong những việc đạo đức, thi hành những lễ nghi tôn giáo… như là kiêng ăn, bố thí, cầu nguyện, dâng hiến… mà nghĩ mình được xứng đáng vào nước thiên đàng, nhưng thật sự họ đang sống trong ách nô lệ mà lại không biết.)
# For example, from the Fourth commandment – “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy,” the Jewish people created over 600 more laws relating to it; their attitude was not to fear and love God for keeping these, but to show off their religious status. (Từ điều răn thứ Tư của Đức Chúa Trời liên hệ đến việc giữ ngày Sabát, người Guiđa đặt thêm trên 600 điều răn khác; Nhưng tấm lòng của họ giữ những điều này không phải là vì kính mến Chúa, nhưng để khoe khoang đạo đức của mình. Những điều này trở thành những thói quen, xiềng xích vô hình, giữ họ trong một đời sống nô lệ “thánh” mà không biết.)
> Because of not knowing, but denying the truth about Jesus, they were blindful to see Him as the Savior God sent. (Bởi vì không nhìn biết lẽ thật, mà họ bị mù quáng không nhận biết Cứu Chúa Giê-xu là Đấng Cứu Thế Đức Chúa Trời đã sai đến để cứu họ.)
> They reasoned themselves – how can God become a man, an ordinary son of a carpenter? But chose to live under slavery of keeping the laws to have approvals of the crowd. (Họ tự suy luận, một người con của ông thợ mộc tầm thường Giôsép thì làm thể nào là Đấng Cứu Thế được? Nhưng họ đã chọn sống nô lệ, giữ những luật lệ để được đám đông chấp nhận là điều đúng hơn.)
> It is the same dilemma today, many people are still rejecting the Savior Jesus, but rather doing all kind of religious works to be saved, and not experiencing true freedom. (Ngày hôm nay cũng vậy, biết bao nhiêu người cứ tiếp tục từ chối tin cậy Đấng Cứu Thế Giê-xu, nhưng họ chọn cố gắng đổ hết những nỗ lực trong những việc làm của tôn giáo, như là “đánh mình và ép xác,” để được cứu, mà không thể kinh nghiệm được sự “buông tha/giải cứu” khỏi quyền lực đoán xét và hậu quả của tội lỗi.)
> Churches today may do the same – they create some man-made traditions and customs that are not written in the Bible and limit their freedom that Jesus already set us free. (Hội thánh Chúa ngày nay cũng có thể rớt vào tình trạng này. Họ đặt ra một số những điều lệ theo phong tục của con người, không có chép trong Kinh Thánh mà trói buộc sự tự do Chúa Giê-xu đã ban; Hậu quả là họ thay vì sống trong tình yêu thương, nhưng lại sống trong sự sợ hãi và lo lắng.)
# The story of big elephants with small chains under their feet; but they do not escape – why?
> Because these elephants when they were small, they already bounded by chains that they could not get out off; so even when they grow old, they still have the mentality that they are bounded and cannot kick that chain and be free.
> Those elephants sometimes are liked churches, same as the Jewish leaders in the old times – they have the power to be free by Jesus; but they prefer to be bounded on the chains of man-made rules and customs?
> Without the teachings and preaching of the words of God, we would not know the truth about the Savior Jesus God sent; and without believing in Him, we would not be freed from the condemnation of sins, and experiencing true freedom. (Nếu không bởi sự giảng dạy của lời Chúa, c/ta sẽ không biết đến đến Đấng Cứu Thế Giê-xu mà Đức Chúa Trời đã sai đến; và nếu không bởi sự tin nhận Ngài, c/ta sẽ không được buông tha khỏi sự đóan xét của tội lỗi mà nhận biết được sự tự do thật.)
IV. Living in the Truths
> To “taste” true freedom, it is not just about knowing the truth, but also about obeying the teachings of Jesus as He said – “If you hold to my teaching…” (Để thật sự kinh nghiêm sự tự do, c/ta không chỉ biết lẽ thật mà thôi, nhưng còn phải giữ những lời dạy dỗ của Chúa Giê-xu nữa.)
> “Living in the truth by obeying Jesus’ teachings” is much more than just knowing Him. (“Ở trong Đạo” nghĩa là không phải chỉ biết “Đạo” thôi, nhưng còn vâng giữ những lời dạy dỗ của Chúa Giê-xu nữa, để thật sự nếm “tự do.”)
> You cannot taste the sweetness of freedom until you obey Jesus’ teachings. (C/ta không thể nếm sự ngot ngào của tự do tâm linh, cho đến khi c/ta vâng giữ những lời dạy dỗ của Chúa Giê-xu.)
# This is a real problem for many Christians repeatedly attending church each Sunday, but going home still feel empty; because they have not begun to do what they have heard and taught. (Đây là nan đề lớn cho nhiều con cái Chúa đi nhóm rất thường xuyên mỗi Chúa Nhật, nhưng ra về vẫn cảm thấy cuộc đời thiếu ý nghĩa; lý do là vì họ chưa chịu vâng lời làm theo những điều họ đã nghe và được dạy dỗ.)
> The sad thing is that this cycle repeats weeks after weeks, months after months, and one day “going to church” becomes a religious burden and boredom to their life. (Điều đáng buồn hơn nữa là vấn đề này cứ lập đi lập lại mỗi tuần, mỗi tháng, và sự nhóm lại trở thành một gánh nặng “thánh” cho đời sống của một số người.)
> Let me give you some examples of freedom if you learn to obey Jesus’ teachings. (Cho quí vị thấy vài thí dụ của sự tự do khi c/ta bằng lòng làm theo những lời dạy dỗ của Chúa Giê-xu.)
1) Jesus taught what in Matthew 5:43-44? “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” (Chúa Giê-xu dạy điều gì trong Mathiơ 5:43-44? “Các ngươi có nghe lời phán rằng: Hãy yêu người lân cận, và hãy ghét kẻ thù nghịch mình. Song ta nói cùng các ngươi rằng: Hãy yêu kẻ thù nghịch, và cầu nguyện cho kẻ bắt bớ các ngươi,”)
> Have you ever done this before to your enemies? How did you feel? (Quí vị có bao giờ thực hành điều này chưa? Sau khi làm xong, quí vị cảm thấy như thế nào?)
# Are you freed from bitterness, headaches, and stressed, but having soul peace, happiness, sleeping better, not easy to be agitated because you forgive your enemies? (Bạn có đã kinh nghiệm được sự buông tha khỏi những đắng cay, nhức đầu, tinh thần căng thẳng, và thế vào đó là sự bình an của tâm hồn, sự vui mừng, ngủ ngon hơn, và không dễ bị bực bội khó chịu trong mọi hoàn cảnh, vì bạn đã tha thứ cho kẻ thù mình sao – đó không phải là tự do Chúa hứa ban sao?)
> You would not know it if you haven’t done it? (Nhưng nếu bạn chưa làm như lời Chúa Giê-xu dạy thì bạn sẽ không thể nếm được sự ngọt ngào của sự buông tha Ngài hứa ban cho, phải không?)
2) Jesus taught what in Matthew 5:29-30? “If your right eye causes you to stumble, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.” (Lời Chúa Giê-xu dạy gì trong Mathiơ 5:29-30? “Vậy nếu con mắt bên hữu xui cho ngươi phạm tội, thì hãy móc mà quăng nó cho xa ngươi đi; vì thà chịu một phần thân thể ngươi phải hư, còn hơn là cả thân thể bị ném vào địa ngục. Lại nếu tay hữu xui cho ngươi phạm tội, thì hãy chặt mà liệng nó cho xa ngươi đi; vì thà chịu một phần thân thể ngươi phải hư, còn hơn là cả thân thể vào địa ngục.”)
> Have you been serious about getting rid of sins and their sources and experienced true freedom, holiness, free of guilt that pleasing to God? (Có bao giờ bạn vâng lời Chúa ra về hết sức dứt bỏ tội lỗi và cắt đứt những nguồn cám dỗ để thật sự kinh nghiệm tự do thật, sự thánh khiết, không còn những cáo trách của tội lỗi, không còn bị điều khiển của những quyền lực xuí dục làm điều ác, nhưng sống thỏa lòng và làm vui lòng Chúa không?)
# Many of us know this freedom when we look back our pasts - we used to be a drunkard, addicting to gambling, a curser, a thief, a liar, a cheater, a porn seeker; but now in Jesus Christ, we are freed from all these sources (Can anyone say Amen to the glory of God?). (Vô số người c/ta ở đây ai cũng nhận biết ngày xưa đời sống cũ của mình là kẻ bợm rượu, nghiền đánh bài, kẻ nói tục, ăn cắp, lừa dối, theo đòi phim ảnh dâm dục; nhưng bây giờ trong Chúa Giê-xu, c/ta được buông tha, được trả tự do khỏi những quyền lực này rồi phải không?)
# Go and ask pastor Tam Conetto, he used to be a drug dealer, on the way to do his evil work, and by hearing the preaching of Jesus’ words, the drug dealer Conetto came to know the truth and Jesus set him free. (Hãy đi hỏi MS Tam Conetto, ngày xưa là kẻ buôn bán ma túy mà Chúa Giê-xu đã buông tha ông thể nào khỏi quyền lực kinh khủng này?)
# Through the VRCM ministry, we heard hundreds and hundreds drug addicts are freed everyday in many prisons in Hanoi because Jesus set them free. (Qua chương trình truyền giáo phục hồi, c/ta nghe cả trăm trăam người nghiện ma túy trong những tù giam ở Hà Nội được Chúa Giê-xu buông tha họ khỏi những quyền lực vô hình này.)
3) What did Jesus say in Matthew 22:37-39? “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.” (Chúa Giê-xu nói gì trong Mathiơ 22:37-39? “Ngươi hãy hết lòng, hết linh hồn, hết ý mà yêu mến Chúa, là Đức Chúa Trời ngươi. 38 Ấy là điều răn thứ nhất và lớn hơn hết. 39 Còn điều răn thứ hai đây, cũng như vậy: Ngươi hãy yêu kẻ lân cận như mình.”)

4) What did Jesus promise in John 14:1-3? “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (Chúa Giê-xu hứa gì trong Giăng 14:1-3 – “Lòng các ngươi chớ hề bối rối; hãy tin Đức Chúa Trời, cũng hãy tin ta nữa. 2 Trong nhà Cha ta có nhiều chỗ ở; bằng chẳng vậy, ta đã nói cho các ngươi rồi. Ta đi sắm sẵn cho các ngươi một chỗ. 3 Khi ta đã đi, và sắm sẵn cho các ngươi một chỗ rồi, ta sẽ trở lại đem các ngươi đi với ta, hầu cho ta ở đâu thì các ngươi cũng ở đó.”)
> Do you have this hope yet by knowing the truth about your final destination? (Bạn có bao giờ kinh nghiệm sự trông cậy này không, biết được lẽ thật của định mệnh cuối cùng của mình là chỗ nào?)
> Holding on to this sure hope from the promise of Jesus helps us to live in freedom without any fears, because we know where we are going. (Cầm giữ sự trông cậy chắc chắn này là lời hứa của Chúa Giê-xu giúp c/ta sống trong lẽ thật mà không còn nỗi lo sợ nào nữa, vì biết rõ mình sẽ đi về đâu.)
> Those who truly know freedom – Jesus’ teachings are no longer a burden to them, but a treasure, a precious pearl, a priceless gem of life. (Cho những ai thật sự biết tự do thì lời dạy dỗ của Chúa Giê-xu không còn là một gánh nặng nữa, nhưng là một của báu, viêc ngọc quí cho đời sống mình.)
> And they would understand the truth that Jesus said in Matthew 11:28-30 – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Và họ sẽ hiểu được lẽ thật mà Chúa Giê-xu đã mời gọi và hứa trong Mathiơ 11:28-30 – “Hỡi những kẻ mệt mỏi và gánh nặng, hãy đến cùng ta, ta sẽ cho các ngươi được yên nghỉ. 29 Ta có lòng nhu mì, khiêm nhường; nên hãy gánh lấy ách của ta, và học theo ta; thì linh hồn các ngươi sẽ được yên nghỉ. 30 Vì ách ta dễ chịu và gánh ta nhẹ nhàng.”

> He will lead you to the truths through His words that will set you free from all the evil powers (inside and outside) that want to destroy you. (Ngài sẽ dẫn đưa bạn vào những lẽ thật trong lời của Chúa, và những lẽ thật đó sẽ buông tha bạn khỏi những buộc trói của những quyền lực ma quỉ muốn phá hủy cuộc đời của bạn.)
> Jesus will give you joy, peace, contentment, and eternal hope, that the world cannot offer. (Nhưng chỉ có Chúa Giê-xu mới đem cho bạn sự vui mừng, bình an của tâm hồn, sự thỏa lòng, ý nghĩa sống, sự trông cậy mà thế gian này không thể cho được.)
> The only thing you just need to do is to come to Jesus. (Chỉ có một điều bạn cần phải làm mà thôi, hãy đến với Chúa Giê-xu.)
> Are you willing to do that right at this moment? (Bạn có sẵn sàng làm điều này ngay bây giờ không?)

> Living free means to be controlled under the truth of God’s words. (Sống tự do là cuộc sống điều khiển bởi lẽ thật trong lời của Chúa Toàn Năng.)
# It is not about doing what our flesh desires, that only leads to destruction, death and perish because our flesh nature is sinful and our acts is evil.
> Not just bad things, but it can be the religious works of slavery that many people are doing them and not knowing it. (Không chỉ những điều xấu mà thôi, nhưng nếu không cẩn thận có thể là những cố gắng của các điều lệ tôn giáo của mình, mà Kinh Thánh chép là “các việc chết” rồi cứ tự nghỉ mình được xưng công bình trước mặt Chúa.)
> We are free because of Jesus; because what Jesus did on the cross to crush the sting of death from satan when He came out of the tomb after 3 days.
> We taste freedom because we obey Jesus’ teachings and experience the sweetness of the overcoming God’s power given through His Holy Spirit.
> We live freely without fears because of what Jesus’ promises about the eternal kingdom of God.
> Do you recognize your life treasures?
# For some, they are money, knowledge, high education, prestige, popularity, fame, material things, time. Others can just be their religions?
> What’s about freedom?
> Do you recognize it as our precious life treasure and be so thankful to God?
# Have you thought - Why is my family here and not living in a communist or Muslism country that opposes Chrisitianity?
# Why do I have the priveledge to freely hear the Gospel preached, and free to believe in God?
> What if US is a communist country, would I have a chance to know the truth and be saved?
> Freedom is precious gift from God.
> So we should not lose the opportunity of freedom to come and place our faith in Jesus Christ.
> We should not waste it, but wisely invest the freedom for God’s kingdom; because we have been set free.
# Galatians 5:1 – “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” (“Đấng Christ đã buông tha chúng ta cho được tự do; vậy hãy đứng vững, chớ lại để mình dưới ách tôi mọi nữa.”)
> Why we keep going back to the slavery of sins?
> No, we can say to all temptations – “I don’t have to obey you; you don’t control me; because I am now a servant of my Master Jesus, for He is already set me free.”
> Go and enjoy your freedom, obey Jesus’ teachings, and invest it for God’s kingdom while we still live in this life, because if the Son has set you free, you are free in deed.
A Life of Freedom
John 8:31-32
“To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Living in America is a great blessing because the freedom we all enjoy.
Americans highly value their freedom and always uphold and protect it with all costs.
The four basic freedoms are:
· First, the freedom of speech and expression;
· Secondly, the freedom of every person to worship God in his own way;
· Thirdly, the freedom from want - which means securities to every nation to pursue a healthy economy for its inhabitants; and
· Fourthly, the freedom from fear – which means that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor.
An important holiday we celebrate here in US is the Independence Day from Great Britain since July 4th 1776.
So how would you define “freedom?” Does it mean to do or say anything as we please?
If freedom means that then this world would be “chaos, disorder, and death.”
It seems that true freedom means you can do anything, but it must be within some boundaries to bring peace and safety to everyone.
So how can we know when freedom has stepped over the line?
How can we know how many laws and rules be enough to truly protect freedom?
Where are the perfect boundaries for us to follow in order to experience true freedom?
For Jesus, His answer is: true freedom begins with knowing the truth.
What is truth then?
The first and basic truth is that there is a great Creator and we all are His creation.
Since we are created, we don’t just live as we please; but we are free to live within the boundaries that our great Creator has set for us.
Where can we find these boundaries?
The standards of truths are God’s words and knowing them is the beginning of freedom.
What are God’s truths?
We need to read the whole Bible to know – that’s why we have the Bible for.
First, the Bible stated that our life is “framed/constrained” by death because of our sins.
There are two kinds of deaths: physical and spiritual deaths.
Just go and visit a cemetery to see the real truth about the physical death that no one is spared by it.
But there is a worse death when a sinner be separated from God and perished in the lake of fire forever.
Secondly, knowing the truth means to know that God is loving and He already sets out a plan to save us.
i) His plan begun with a promise – “the seed of a woman” will destroy the curse of the serpent/satan who has the sting of death.
ii) The plan followed with a chosen nation (Israel) by God’s choice; So, from this nation, a Savior would be born into this world.
iii) At the right time, the Savior Jesus was born from a virgin, then later died on the cross to be a “payment” for our sins and redeem us back to God.
iv) God offers this salvation freely to anyone who believes in Jesus will be saved from the eternal death, but have the eternal life in God’s heavenly kingdom.
That is the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth
Jesus is the truth that leads us to the eternal life.
This is the truth that Jesus came and preached first to the Jewish people, but their leaders did not accept it.
Rather they thought by keeping all the religious ceremonies and rituals to go to heaven, not knowing that they were living under slavery.
Because of not knowing, they were blindful to see Him as the Savior God sent.
Many people today are still rejecting the Savior Jesus, but rather doing all kind of religious works to be saved.
Churches today may do the same; constraint themselves under some man-made regulations and customs that are not written in the Bible and limit their freedom that Jesus already set us free.
Without the teachings and preaching of the words of God, we would not know the truth about the Savior Jesus God sent; and without believing in Him, we would not be freed from the condemnation of sins, and experiencing true freedom.
To “taste” true freedom, we must obey the teachings of Jesus.
This is a real problem for many Christians repeatedly attending church each Sunday, but going home still feel empty; because they have not begun to do what they have heard and taught.
The sad thing is that this cycle repeats weeks after weeks, months after months, and one day “going to church” becomes a religious burden and boredom to their life.
But if you obey Jesus’ teachings in Matthew 5:43-44 and forgive your enemies, would you be free from bitterness, headaches, and stressed?
If you obey Jesus’ teachings in Matthew 5:29-30 to be serious about getting rid of sins, would you be free of guilt?
If you obey Jesus’ teachings in Matthew 22:37-39 in helping the poor and caring for the weak, would you find the meaning of this life, joy, and contentment?
If you believe in Jesus’ promise in John 14:1-3, would you have the sure hope of your destination and live freely without any fears?
Those who truly know freedom, Jesus’ teachings are no longer a burden to them, but a treasure, a priceless gem of life.
Are you still trying to find rest and freedom?
You can find it in Christ Jesus, because He is the truth.
He will lead you to the truth through His words that will set you free from all the evil powers that want to destroy you.
The only thing you just need to do is to come to Jesus.
Are you willing to do that right at this moment?
